NOTARIAL ACTS

JURATS

This type of notarial act involves the Notary Public administering an oath or affirmation to the person signing a document, and verifying that the statement made in the document is true and accurate.

PROTESTS

Notary Publics can also perform protests, which are formal declarations made by a person regarding a bill of exchange or promissory note. This is typically done to contest the payment or non-payment of the instrument.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS

This is the most common type of notarial act, where the Notary Public verifies the identity of the person signing a document and confirms that the signature is genuine.

AFFIDAVITS

Notary Publics can also take affidavits, which are written statements made under oath or affirmation. The Notary Public must verify the identity of the person making the statement and administer the appropriate oath or affirmation

*CERTIFICATIONS

Although New York Notaries are not authorized to certify copies of any documents, if we are asked to notarize an individual’s signature on a statement asserting that the attached copy of the individual’s passport is a true copy, we may do so.

FOR YOUR LEGAL DOCUMENTATION

Legal documentation is crucial, and using an attorney can ensure that your documents are legally binding and enforceable. They have the knowledge and expertise required to navigate the legal landscape and identify any potential issues before they become major problems.

However, if you can't afford an attorney, sites like e-forms can be a useful resource for creating legal documents.

While e-forms are affordable, they are not a substitute for legal advice, and it's always best to consult with an attorney if you have any questions or concerns.
